Beat the Street
As you know, Thomas Court Hub took part in Beat the Street between September and November. Beat the Street was “A fun, free game for the community of Dublin to see how far you can walk, cycle and run around your area and around the world.” The game finished on November 1st.
We nearly Beat the Street!
After 6 weeks of walking and tapping, we are proud to say the Thomas Court team came in 2nd place on the average points and in 15th place overall.
Walking for Positive Physical and Mental Health
Here is an account from one of the Thomas Court participants about their experience of Beat the Street:
“We had to walk to the beat the street machines, which were all over Dublin. They were a ½ mile apart and we would have to tag on them with the cards which we were supplied in the centre. I found it was good for my mental and physical health. I really enjoyed it and I found I didn’t smoke while walking and I walked fast too. I inhaled a lot of oxygen and my lungs opened up; I feel my breathing has improved and my muscles feel more toned. I enjoyed parks like Stephen’s Green and the Phoenix Park. The scenery was beautiful.
We went into the city centre a lot and all over different places. When you tagged the machine, you accumulated points. I really enjoyed doing this and I felt great benefit from doing it.”
Walking North Bull Wall
Last Thursday, to mark the end of a successful Beat the Street, we made the trip out to Bull Island for a walk along the North Bull Wall. Here are some photos we took while we were on our trip.
